Performance Arts Happening in the Hamptons!

Following our coverage of local arts events on the North Fork, we’re moving on down to the South Fork to see what’s happening in the Hamptons! It turns out that there’s a TON happening on the South Fork, so we’ve actually decided to split our account of it all into two posts! This week, check out our list of performances in the Hamptons—from discussions and panels to comedy and musical acts, there’s something for everyone going on out East!

6/26 7pm – Amanda Lindhout: Building a House in the Sky as part of the SimonSays 2014 Hamptons Summer Series: Celebrating the Power, Perseverance, and Resilience of Women. An emotional account of Lindhout’s 2008 kidnapping and subsequent 15 month imprisonment in Somalia.

6/27 8pm – Jim Breuer: A Modern Day Bill Cosby Wearing a Metallica Tshirt. Starred in Half Baked and was on the cast of SNL for four years.

6/28 8pm – The Pitchforks: Duke University’s A Cappella Group for the Whole Family. Founded in 1979, they’re the oldest a cappella group at Duke. They’re nationally acclaimed, and have won many awards.

6/29 8pm Bela Fleck and Brooklyn Rider: Classical Music Reinvented and Revived. Bela Fleck is a Grammy Award-winning musician who transcends genres, dabbling in bluegrass, jazz, pop, rock, and world beat. Brooklyn Rider is a 21st century string quartet that also covers a stylistic spectrum.

7/6 8pm Commodores Featuring Thomas McClary: Motown Era Legends. These Motown legends are some of the most successful entertainers of their kind, with timeless hits under their belts such as “Easy,” “Brick House,” “Three Times a Lady,” and “Nightshift.”

7/12 8pm Matthew Sweet: Power Pop Pioneer. Sweet took FM radio and MTV by storm with his 1991 hit “Girlfriend,” and is back at it again with another crowd pleaser: his newest albumModern Art.

7/13 8pm Procol Harum: The Symphonic Rock Soundtrack of a Generation. World renowned for their popular hit “A Whiter Shade of Pale,” followed by subsequent hits “Conquistador” and “Salty Dog,” this UK-born band is always a fan favorite.

7/14 7pm Zhena Muzyka: Ingredients for a Purpose-Filled Life as the second part of the SimonSays 2014 Hamptons Summer Series: Celebrating the Power, Perseverance, and Resilience of Women. Zhena’s story of how she became the founder of a multi-million dollar company started out of personal hardship.

7/21 7pm Susannah Calahan: Brain on Fire: My Month of Madness as the third part of the SimonSays 2014 Hamptons Summer Series: Celebrating the Power, Perseverance, and Resilience of Women. Susannah was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease that threw her whole world into a whirlwind beyond her wildest imagination.

7/26 7:30pm & 10pm Fab Faux: The Ultimate Beatles Tribute Band. Take a journey through the Beatles’ career with the musical offerings of the Fab Faux, the Crème Tangerine Strings, and Hogshead Horns.

7/27 8pm Dave Mason’s Traffic Jam: Timeless Hall of Fame Rock ‘n’ Roll. Mason’s had a profound effect on the rock and roll genre as a whole, and has written a number of hits for superstars such as Eric Clapton, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and more.

8/2 8pm Ziggy Marley: The Fly Rasta Tour. Six time Grammy winner, Emmy winner, humanitarian, singer/songwriter and producer, not to mention the son of the legendary Bob Marley, Ziggy puts on a performance that’s not to be missed.

7/31-8/3 (6:30pm on 7/31, 8/1, 8/2; 1pm on 8/2-3) Zoppe: An Italian Family Circus: Fun for All Ages! Considered to be the Most Charming Show on Earth, Nino the clown and friends will be lighting up the Great Lawn in Westhampton Beach with circus fun for the whole family.

6/28 5pm Summer Roses IV. A concert of opera, dance, and film music for voice and violin, featuring Sarah Moulton Faux (soprano), Junko Ohtsu (violin), and Wei-En Hsu (piano). Sarah Moulton Faux is a widely acclaimed soprano, and Junko Ohtsu is a world renowned violinist. They will be performing classic works in benefit of the Southampton Cultural Center’s new ‘Songs and Stories’ concert series premiering in the fall. After the performance, there will be a reception for guests to meet and greet the artists.

6/27 8pm Under the Rock: A humorous romp through the 40-year career of drum legend Corky Laing. Special guest: Nancy Atlas.

6/28 8pm Guild Ha!! Comedy Nights: Jon Lovitz with Special Guest Sue Costello. Emmy nominee for his work on SNL, and widely known for his appearances in Big, A League of Their Own, The Wedding Singer, and Rat Race, Lovitz has been cracking audiences up for the last 20 years.

6/29 7:30pm Guild Hall and Patricia Watt present Tovah Feldshuh in a Staged Reading of MONA LISA SPEAKS by Jenny Lyn Bader. This solo play, inspired by real events, tells the tale of Mona Lisa breaking her silence to tell the public what’s really on her mind.

7/2 7:30pm Crossroads Music Showcase Celebrating the Music of Bob Dylan with The Complete Unknowns. This tribute band covers all five decades of Dylan’s career.

7/3 8pm Guild Ha!! Comedy Nights: John Leguizamo Ghetto Klown. Leguizamo has been in more than 50 films, including Baz Lurhmann’s Romeo and Juliet and Moulin Rouge, To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar, and all three Ice Age films as the voice of Sid. He’s also won an Emmy!

7/5 7pm Martin Short, Tony and Emmy Award-winning actor, puts on a variety show performance that includes hilarious skits, toe-tapping song and dance numbers, and side-splitting comedy.

7/5 8pm Guild Hall’s Songbook Salon at Southampton Arts Center presents Melissa Errico: Broadway Firecracker! Errico will soon be starring in the upcoming musical Bull Durham in Atlanta, which will be heading to Broadway in Spring 2015. Catch her incredible performance of theater show stoppers on Long Island’s beautiful East End!

7/16-8/3 (Tuesday-Sunday @ 8pm, Matinees @ 3pm on 7/27 and 8/3. No 8pm show on 7/25 or 8/3) Clever Little Lies by Joe DiPietro, starring Greg Mullavey, Jim Stanek, Marlo Thomas, and Kate Wetherhead. A performance piece full of family-dynamic-centered hilarity and dry humor.

7/20 4pm New Takes on Legacy: The Artist, The Architect, and The Historic Home. Christy MacLear, the Executive Director of the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, discusses the creative and civic-minded spirit that Rauschenberg embodied, that his foundation continues to use as motivation in the work that they do.

7/21 7pm Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel – A Screening and Panel Discussion. Come see Lisa Immordino Vreeland’s intimate portrait and vibrant celebration of one of the most influential women of the 20th century, Diana Vreeland, the “Empress of Fashion.”

7/25 7:30pm Hamptons International Film Festival presents SummerDocs #2: Keep On Keepin’ On, hosted by Alec Baldwin. The film follows 23-year-old Justin Kauflin, a blind piano prodigy, as he works through his stage fright and begins studying under jazz legend Clark Terry.

7/28 7:30pm Guest Rental: Peter and Will Anderson Trio featuring Alex Wintz, Guitar. Peter and Will Anderson are one of the most extraordinary jazz duos that are currently performing. Throw Alex Wintz into the mix, and who knows what will happen!
