From the North Shore to the South Shore, and the Queens border to Orient Point, Long Island is full of bustling communities, each with their own unique qualities and characteristics. Many of our towns have Main Street areas, where neighbors often bump into each other while going out to dinner, picking up groceries, or grabbing a treat at Carvel or Ralph’s.

Summertime brings out all the colors of our communities, letting Long Island’s culture and diversity shine through the weekend days and nights. Local artists come out to show off and sell their crafts and artisanal goods, food vendors of all kinds provide crazy assortments of delicious things to eat from all over the world.

Some street fairs have rides, games, cotton candy, funnel cake (obviously the best fairs have funnel cake, just saying). But no matter what’s at the street fair, you’re always guaranteed to have a great time when you go to one, because you’re surrounded by the people who make your community what it is. Summer festivals are the perfect opportunity for Long Islanders to reacquaint themselves with their neighbors, and celebrate the communities that we’ve worked hard to build—where we take pride in raising our families and watching our children grow up.

If you’re looking for a summer festival or street fair in your area, check out our list of everything happening this summer!

Father’s Day is the perfect time to remind your dad how special he is, and thank him for all that he’s done for you over the years. Now that you’re sitting down to plan a day in his honor…what exactly are you going to do?! With so much to do, so many places to go, and so much delicious food to eat on Long Island, sometimes all our options can become a bit overwhelming. That’s why we’ve put together a carefully curated list of great ways to spend this weekend with your dad!

Father’s Day Car Show/Swap/Meet and Motorcycle Ride

It feels like any weekend that you drive down Sunrise Highway, you’re bound to see something going on in the parking lot of various LIRR stations. This Sunday is no exception! In the Merrick LIRR Station lot between Hewlett and Merrick Avenues, you’ll find plenty of cars, foods, rides, and vendors to see, eat, and enjoy from 9a-4p! If your dad has a vehicle that’s near and dear to his heart (second to you, of course!), now’s his time to shine and show off his toy! And if he just loves cars and bikes, it’s a great opportunity to check out some sweet ones.

Father’s Day Rocket Building

Do you have a kid who loves science or building things? If so, this is a great chance for dad to get crafty with your child at the Center for Science Teaching and Learning! Their annual Daddy and Me Rocket Building event is a ton of fun, and is non-stop excitement from construction to take-off! Register in advance so you don’t miss out!

The Universal Fitness Expo

Is your dad a super tough guy? Is he really into fitness? Does he wish he was really into fitness? If strength and health are up his alley, then you’ll want to bring him to Nassau Coliseum this weekend for the Universal Fitness Expo! There’ll be a co-ed strength competition called the Battle at the Coliseum, strength training classes and challenges with Team Gaglione Strength, the Civilian Military Combine Ultimate Race Series, and much more! Get your tickets and learn more on their site (link above).

Father’s Day Tea Party

If all that physicality is a little too much, you can tone it down several notches and attend the Father’s Day Tea Party at the Lakeview Library in Rockville Centre. Come out and enjoy the nice, June weather, and spend an intimate afternoon celebrating the holiday with your dad.

Drafts for Dad at George Martin Burger Bar

Who doesn’t love a good burger and beer? At George Martin’s Burger Bar, they’ll be serving brunch from 11:30-3p, and dinner from 3-9p this Sunday. During their Drafts for Dads special, the first draft beer for Dad is on the house! Check out their full menu on their website (link above), and their extensive drink list! For what it’s worth, I’m a huge fan of the Bluepoint Blueberry

However you decide to celebrate your dad this Father’s Day, we hope you have a great time! What are you going to do with Dad this weekend? Tell us on Facebook! And, as always, if you need a ride to any of the places you’re bringing Dad this weekend, be sure to give All Island Transportation a call at (516) 742-2222 to get you there quickly and safely!

Now that school is nearly over, the kids are beyond ready to get out on the weekends and enjoy the fresh air and feel the sand between their toes. But spending the day outside doesn’t have to only be fun for the kids—Long Islanders big and small can all find a way to have a good time while they soak up the sun on the Nassau County beach of their choice! Check out these great local events in the Long Beach/Jones Beach area for fun ways to spend your weekends!

Farmers’ Market at Kennedy Plaza

On Saturdays from 9a-2p, head on down to Kennedy Plaza in Long Beach for a wonderful Farmers’ Market! We all know that Long Island produces an overwhelming abundance of a variety of foods, but most of that happens out East. Do you really want to trek all the way out to the East End to get the best fruit, seafood, and artisanal goods that our area has to offer? Now you don’t have to—just go to Long Beach! Farmers from all over the island meet up there every Saturday and Wednesday (10a-4p) to set up shop.

Arts in the Plaza

The Farmers’ Market isn’t the only thing that’s livening up Kennedy Plaza on the weekends! Arts in the Plaza is an opportunity to be inspired by local arts and music. From 10a-4p, enjoy some true Long Island culture—peruse handmade art and crafts, dance to live music performances, and let your kids get creative at the kids’ art station! There’s always something fun to see and do in the Plaza, whether you’re hula hooping, petting cute dogs, or buying cool stuff. Check out their Facebook for a ton of photos of weekends past.

Movie Night on the Beach

The Beach Park in Long Beach officially opens for the season on Saturday, June 28th. The Park is open from 9a-6p. After spending the day on the beach, grab some dinner at a local restaurant, and head back for Movie Night on the Beach at 8:15! Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory will be screening on Virginia Beach—be sure to bring your beach chairs!

Jones Beach State Park Events

The State Park at Jones Beach offers a ton of activities for nature lovers. Here’s a rundown of the June calendar!

Saturday, June 14, 9a-2p: Plover Hike

Join the park staff as they take a walk down the shore to get acquainted with the plover visiting the Jones Beach shores. Afterward, join them for a poetry-writing session about what you just experienced.

Saturday, June 21, 9a-2p: Summer Solstice Stroll

This is the longest day of the whole year! What better way to spend it than taking a mile-long stroll through Long Beach’s beautiful West End? Don’t forget to wear shoes that are good for both walking and water.

Sunday, June 22, 1:30p-3p: Nature Investigators

Calling all detectives in the “Case of the Missing Plover Eggs!” The Park staff have some suspects and a collection of clues, but it’s up to you to crack the case! They need you!

Tuesday, June 24, 10:30a-11:30a and 1:30p-2:30p: Tiny Tots – Horseshoe Crabs

This program connects children and their parents with local nature through short walks, animal visitors, and crafts. It’s for designed for children ages 3-5 to explore the natural world around us.

*Note: All activities at the Jones Beach State Park require registration before you arrive. For more information on making your reservation, visit the NYS Parks website.
